What Really Happens at a Wellness Sanctuary Retreat?
Have you ever looked at a wellness retreat and thought...
"That sounds lovely... but what actually happens?"
Maybe you've never been to one before.
Maybe you're wondering if you'll know anyone.
Maybe you're worried you'll feel awkward turning up on your own.
Or perhaps you're imagining lots of very serious people sitting cross-legged in silence while someone burns an enormous amount of incense!
Well, let me put your mind at ease.
That's not quite us.
A Wellness Sanctuary retreat is about creating space to pause, breathe, connect and have a bloody lovely day while you're at it.
You don't need to know anyone
One of the things I hear most often is:
"I'd love to come, but I don't know anyone."
And honestly? So many women arrive saying exactly that.
Some come with their best friend. Some come with their sister. And lots come completely on their own.
And that's absolutely fine.
From the moment you arrive, you'll be welcomed into the space and gently introduced to the women around you.
There's no expectation to be loud, confident or instantly sociable.
You can simply arrive as you are.
And somehow, by the end of the day, complete strangers are often laughing together like they've known each other for years.
So what does the day actually look like?
Every retreat is slightly different, because we love creating experiences rather than following a rigid formula.
But you'll usually find a beautiful mix of movement, stillness, sound, connection, reflection and a little bit of fun.
You might begin with some gentle movement or meditation, giving you the chance to leave the outside world at the door.
Then we might move into breathwork, a workshop, journaling or another practice designed to help you reconnect with yourself.
And then there's the sound...
The sound journey
This is often one of the most anticipated parts of the day.
Crystal singing bowls, chimes, drums and other instruments create a deeply relaxing soundscape where you can simply lie back and receive.
There's nothing you have to do.
No right way to relax.
No expectation to empty your mind.
You simply get comfortable, close your eyes and allow yourself to be held by the sound.
And yes... some people fall asleep.
And that is absolutely allowed!
There might be a few happy tears too
Wellness retreats can create space for emotions to surface.
Sometimes we laugh.
Sometimes we cry.
Sometimes we don't feel anything particularly dramatic at all, we just feel calm.
And that's the beauty of it.
There is no pressure to have a breakthrough.
No pressure to share your deepest feelings.
No pressure to "heal" anything.
You are allowed to simply enjoy the experience.
And then there's the food...
Because let's be honest, wellness doesn't mean we forget about food!
Sharing food around a table is such an important part of our retreats.
It's where conversations happen naturally.
It's where women start getting to know each other.
And quite often, it's where the biggest laughs happen.
Because wellness should feel good.
It shouldn't feel like punishment.
Time to simply be
One of my favourite things about our retreats is creating moments where nothing is expected of you.
You might sit outside.
Take a walk.
Have a cup of tea.
Journal.
Chat with someone new.
Or simply sit quietly and enjoy not having anywhere else you need to be.
For one day, you don't have to organise everyone else.
You don't have to answer emails.
You don't have to rush around.
You don't have to be productive.
You just get to be you.
"But I'm nervous..."
If you're reading this thinking "This all sounds lovely, but I'd be terrified to come on my own..."
I want you to know something.
You're not the only one.
So many women feel nervous before their first retreat.
And that's exactly why we work hard to create a space that feels welcoming, relaxed and judgement-free.
You don't need to be spiritual.
You don't need to meditate.
You don't need to be flexible.
You don't need to know anything about Reiki or sound healing.
And you definitely don't need to have your life figured out.
Just bring yourself.
We'll take care of the rest.
And then comes the bit I love most...
The end of the retreat.
There's usually a moment where everyone becomes aware of how quickly the day has gone.
The room feels different.
The women feel different.
There's often laughter, hugs, a few tears and those lovely conversations that continue long after everyone has packed up their bags.
And that's when I know we've created what we set out to create.
Not a perfect day.
Not a day where everything magically changes.
But a day where women have had the opportunity to pause, reconnect and remember themselves.
And sometimes, that's exactly what we need.
You don't have to wait until you're burnt out.
You don't need permission to take a day for yourself.
You don't have to justify wanting some time away.
And you certainly don't need to wait until everything else is sorted.
You are allowed to choose yourself now.
So if you've been quietly thinking about coming along to a Wellness Sanctuary retreat...
Maybe this is your little nudge.
Come alone. Come with a friend. Come exactly as you are.
We'd love to welcome you.
